Writing on the Air was lucky enough to be able to cover the 2016 SXSW Film Festival that descended on Austin earlier this March.

Co-host Lisa Onland sat down with the directors of three films that premiered at the festival. First up was Matthew Cherry, writer and director of the independent film 9 Rides.

About the film:

An Uber driver clocks in to work on the busiest night of the year, New Year’s Eve. The night takes him all across the city as he transports nine different sets of passengers who help him come to terms with life changing news.

About the director:

Matthew A. Cherry is a former NFL player turned director. His feature debut THE LAST FALL (starring Lance Gross and Nicole Beharie) premiered at SXSW in 2012 and won Best Screenplay at the American Black Film Festival. As a music video director, he’s worked with artists such as Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams and Snoop Dogg.
