Maya Perez holds a BA from Vassar College and an MFA from the Michener Center for Writers at The University of Texas. She is co-editor of the books On Story II: Screenwriters and Filmmakers on Their Iconic Films (University of Texas Press, 2016) and On Story: Screenwriters and Their Craft (University of Texas Press, 2013).
Maya is also a former Michener Fellow, Sundance Screenwriters Intensive Fellow, New York Stage & Film Emerging Filmmaker, and was named one of MovieMaker and Austin Film Festival’s “25 Screenwriters to Watch” for 2016. As a fiction writer, her stories have appeared in The Masters Review and Electric Literature.
Maya lives in Austin with her husband, artist Johnny Walker, and their daughter.
