There have been lots of wonderful changes at Kirkus Reviews since Clay Smith became Editor in Chief last year.

Clay hails from Amarillo, Texas and is the former literary director of the Texas Book Festival. He began his journalism career as Senior Editor covering books at the Austin Chronicle. Clay also had a journalism fellowship at the Dallas Observer and has done work for the Sundance Film Festival.

Currently, he also sits on the board of directors of the National Book Critics Circle and is the literary director of the San Antonio Book Festival.

kirkus zadie smith nov 2016Clay received a degree from the New York University Cultural Reporting and Criticism graduate program where he earned the prestigious Edwin Diamond Award.  His articles have appeared in Newsday, Aether Magazine, Publishers Weekly, Daily Beast, indiewire.com, Austin Way and Elle Décor, among others.
