Bob Cheevers

Among other things, we’ll discuss the first annual Be-Bob-Alooza event, conceived by Austin Songwriter Group advisory board member Bob Cheevers, which is designed to draw attention to Austin singer/songwriters who are on a serious quest to get their music recorded and into the local/national music mainstream.

Each year, a different Austin singer/songwriter who is in the process of making a CD and who could use a financial boost will be selected to receive the proceeds of that year’s Be-Bob-Alooza event. The event will occur in conjunction with Bob’s November 11th birth date. The proceeds from the door charge and silent auction sales (minus production costs) will go to the singer/songwriter selected that year. A set of criteria is being developed which will be used by a panel or Austin music professionals to determine who next year’s recipient of the proceeds will be.

This year, since Bob came up with the idea and it will be his 68th birthday AND he’s in the process of making a double album on the heels of having won the Academy Of Texas Music “Singer/songwriter of the year” award…the proceeds will go to him.

Sponsors of the event include Austin Songwriters Group, Threadgills North, KUT.org and KOOP.org.

This is an Austin music-community event designed to help offset the never ending costs of keeping the music alive. We hope you will come out and support this event and be part of Austin’s vital singer/songwriter scene that is alive and well.
