Bruce McCandless III lives in Austin, Texas with his wife and two daughters. He grew up on the Gulf Coast, within spitting distance of the Houston Ship Channel, and recalls subsisting primarily on mud and sulfure dioxide residues. Semi-educated in the arts of war, philosophy, and misinformation by the University of Texas’s Plan II program, he has gone on to publish stories, poems, and articles in The Seattle Review, Natural Bridge, Pleiades, Cold Mountain Review, Slant, The New Delta Review, The Texas Observer, Louisiana Literature, Avenue, Borderlands, The Asian Wall Street Journal, The Journal of Texas Insurance Law, and The Handbook of Texas History Online.

Bruce writes about Texas–its past, present, people and places. His current book is Sour Lake: or, The Beast.
