Jill Chamberlain, Austin-based script doctor, story consultant and screenwriting coach, is here to talk about the revolutionary tool for storytelling she created, the Nutshell Technique. This radically different tactic to identifying what makes a screenplay great will forever change not only how writers approach screenwriting but also how we all watch movies.

Her new book is The Nutshell Technique: Crack the Secret of Successful Screenwriting (University of Texas Press, March 2016)

Jill Chamberlain is a script doctor, story consultant, and screenwriting coach. In 2006, she founded The Screenplay Workshop, a writing program that centers on the revolutionary tool for storytelling she created, the Nutshell Technique.

Before this book, she had taught the Nutshell Technique to more than a thousand screenwriters around the globe in her workshops and in private consultation, many times via Skype. Her students and clients have had their screenplays optioned, sold, made into award-winning feature films, garner them Hollywood representation, land them professional screenwriting assignments, and recognized by top competitions including the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences’ Nicholl Fellowship.

Jill studied in the graduate film program at Columbia University, where she also received her undergraduate degree in English. She has presented her unique methods as a guest lecturer at institutions including Parsons School of Design, Maryland Institute College of Art, The Writer’s Garret, Reel Women, Writers’ League of Texas, Austin School of Film, the University of Texas at Austin’s Women In Cinema, Austin Film Society and Austin Screenwriters Group.
